Mahasiswa Bukan Sekadar Predikat

Hidup mahasiswa!.

Are You Down or Done with Homework?
Have you ever got homework from your teacher at school? If you are students or workers who were once at school, the answer is definitely “yes”. Homework is very familiar in the school days. Started from elementary school, junior high school, until senior high school, teachers give homework to students and ask them to submit in the next session or give them a deadline. It is good for students because the teacher hope that the students understand the subject more thoroughly and automatically they will study at home. Homework has a good purpose for student at first. But, how about if all teachers in class give the students homework? As we know, students don’t just learn about one or two subjects. They have about nine until twelve subjects in every grade. Every subject has a different teacher who hopes a good score from the students. So, can the student be focus on all subjects? Homework has disadvantages for students, too, such as wasting their time at home, encouraging them to cheat, and disturbing their time to study.
Homework has a negative sides for students. First, too much homework makes students waste their time at home. Most students spend their time in school for about 8 hours. So, they just have short time at home. It can affect their family relation. When students really focus on their homework, they don’t have anymore time with their family. If this happens again and again, there will be miscommunication among them. We couldn’t let it happens, because family is the main education for student. Much homework can also affect their responsibility to do the household chores, like cleaning the house. Female students, especially, are more responsible for such kind of work like sweeping the floor, washing a dishes, and cooking a dish. Although students have to be responsible for their homework, they also need to help their mother. Without such kind of nurture, children won’t grow up independently.
Second, homework also encourages students to cheat. Students almost spend most of their time in school to study. When they come back home, they have been tired. They just want to relax their body. They prefer coming earlier to school the following day to copy their friend’s homework than doing it by themselves at home. They think it is trivial and just hope a score from their teacher, not really thinking about their responsibility. Another thing that encourages them to cheat is that there is no time to do that homework. Usually, the teacher gives students homework to be submitted in the next session or the next day. Perhaps students can finish that well. But, they don’t have just one subject. They have more than eight subjects in which each subject has different homework, too. So, they don’t have enough time to finish it well or perhaps they just don’t do it at all.
Third, homework disturbs student’s time to study another subject. Sometimes, teacher tells student that the following day they will have a test. Automatically, students who want to get a good score in the test will study seriously first. But they can’t spend all their time to study that subject while they have much homework. Their time will be divided for doing homework and studying. Their time is not long. It is possible that they can’t focus on both of them. It also causes them to unable to learn deeply to their favorite subject. Much homework also limits the students to improve their skill and hobby. Take for an example, student who has interest in playing football just have a little time on weekend if they have much homework. They can do their hobby on weekend only, so they must forget their hobby for the sake of homework. Hobby and skills are also important things that someone has to improve.
In brief, homework is a good idea. But, much homework can effect student’s daily activities especially bad effects. Giving students much homework is not the best way to push the academic quality. Hopefully, students will be given less homework. The other ways is the school has to alter the schedule of the school to expect a more effective time in school. So, teachers don’t have to give homework to students. The education system is not wrong but we have to improve it to be better.
